Get Involved

College is much more than just academics. The invaluable experiences gained through co-curricular activities cannot just be delivered in the classroom alone. The term “co-curricular” replaced the previously used term “extra-curricular” to emphasize that your involvement outside the classroom goes hand in hand with your classroom academics!

Raider Life strives to cultivate a campus environment that promotes equity, opportunities for all students to participate in extracurricular activities, and the environment for each student to learn and practice essential skills needed after college life. Raider Life provides support to students, student organizations, community service projects, and community activities that may enhance the quality of educational life for students. Raider Life also provides social and cultural enrichment opportunities in Okaloosa and Walton counties.

Athletics

NWF State College is an active member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) which is composed of all public community and state colleges in Florida. Visit Raider Athletics for more information.

Intercollegiate Sports

Intercollegiate Sports operate under the rules and regulations of NJCAA and FCSAA. Varsity athletes enjoy the privilege, honor, and social distinction of representing the college in the field of athletic competition. Representation of the college is open by competitive selection to all students provided they meet the eligibility requirements of the FCSAA. Intercollegiate sports include basketball for men and women, baseball for men, and fast-pitch softball for women.

Student Organizations

Raider Life oversees a wide variety of student organizations that cover many interests and activities. Membership is open to all students who qualify, without regard to age, color, creed, handicap, marital status, national origin, race, religion or sex, except for those particular groups which are selective on the basis of scholarship. For more information on getting involved with a student organization or starting one, visit Raider Life or contact the office at (850) 729-5348.

Student Advisory Board

Student Advisory Board (SAB) provides a voice for the Northwest Florida State College student body in all college affairs while helping to further the goals of the college from a student perspective. The President of SAB acts as a liaison between students and college administration and represents the interests of the student body. The SAB president receives a yearly tuition scholarship. The SAB offices are housed in the Activities Center.

SAB participates with the Florida College System Student Government Association (FCSSGA) in representing students across the state to advocate change in Florida legislation beneficial to all college students. Lastly, SAB coordinates and regulates various activities for students such as fall and spring flings and various service learning opportunities.

All currently enrolled students of NWF State College are associate members of SAB with the right to full voice, upon recognition, in all SAB functions. However, the only students with the right to vote in SAB functions are; the Vice-President, Board Members, and the SAB Executive Board. In the event of a tie vote at any SAB function, the SAB President will cast the deciding vote.

Student Organization Terms

Each student activity, club, and organization authorized to function in the name of the College shall be organized, chartered and operated in accordance with Florida Statutes, State Board Rules, NWF State College Student Handbook, and the Student Organization Handbook. Visit Raider Life for more information.
