CHM1045C College Chemistry I -

4 Credit Hours ♦



(Fall, Spring, Summer)

This course is designed for students pursuing careers in the sciences or who need a more rigorous presentation of chemical concepts than is offered in an introductory course. students will engage in problem solving and critical thinking while applying chemical concepts. Topics will include the principles of chemistry including atomic theory, electronic and molecular structure, measurement, stoichiometry, bonding, periodicity, thermochemistry, nomenclature, solutions, and the properties of gases. Course readings will be derived from the western canon. In addition and to the extent possible, the course will provide instruction on the historical background and philosophical foundation of western civilization and American democracy.

 

Prerequisite(s): MAC 1105  required; high school Chemistry or Physics, CHM 1020  or PHY 1020  advised.
