ANT2100 Introduction to Archaeology -

3 Credit Hours

(Offered as Needed)

Introduction to the fundamental principles, methods, and theories in archaeology. Includes a history of the development of archaeology, and examination of the nature of archaeological data and research, an introduction to archaeological data and analysis, and an examination of approaches to synthesis and interpretation. North and South American archeology is studied, but non-western examples are also studied to enhance an understanding of the development of the discipline in Europe and the Americas. Course readings will be derived from the western canon. In addition and to the extent possible, the course will provide instruction on the historical background and philosophical foundation of western civilization and American democracy.
