Completion requirement
Complete ALL of the following Courses:

Complete at least one course from each of the following sections as listed in the General Education page of this catalog.

  • Core Humanities (designated with a ♦) - 3 Credit Hours

  • Additional General Education - 1-4 Credit Hours

  • General Education or Core Mathematics (designated with a ♦) - 3-4 Credit Hours

  • General Education or Core Physical Sciences (designated with a ♦) - 3-4 Credit Hours

  • General Education or Core Biological Sciences (designated with a ♦) - 3-4 Credit Hours

Recommended Core Humanities: course

Take one of the following Social Sciences courses required to meet the Civic Literacy Competency requirement:

Complete ANY of the following Courses:

Per Florida Statutes § 1007.25 (2021) and Rule 6A-10.02413 F.A.C., all students initially entering the B.S. program in Fall 2021 or later must complete both: 1. A state-approved civic literacy course (e.g., AMH2010, AMH2020, POS2041, AMS2010) with a minimum grade of “C”. 2. A passing score on an approved civic literacy assessment (e.g., Florida Civic Literacy Exam, CLEP American Government, AP U.S. Government, AP U.S. History).

NWFSC General Education Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of general education coursework, the student will:

  1. Successfully apply critical thinking skills to a topic or problem.

  2. Create an effective response using communication skills that are appropriate for the situation.

  3. Critically assess credible and relevant information sources

  4. Responsibly use information.

  5. Discuss various events, theories, and/or viewpoints.

  6. Interpret data using quantitative analysis, logical reasoning, and/or theoretical reasoning.

For students entering the B.S. program with an A.A. degree, 21 credits of electives will be applied here.  

For students entering the B.S. program with an A.S./A.A.S. degree in ECE, 21 credits of A.S. core courses will be applied here.

Foreign Language

A minimum of 6 credit hours must be earned in one foreign language at the college level, or successful completion of two sequential credits in high school foreign language, or an appropriate score on an approved CLEP examination.

Students entering with an A.S. or A.A.S. degree will complete 18 General Education hours within the B.S. in Early Childhood coursework.

Students entering with an A.A. degree will complete 18 hours of Early Childhood core coursework within the B.S. in Early Childhood, in accordance with a signed program of study designed by a program advisor.
