A.A. Degree General Education Requirements

Associate in Arts students must complete 60 college credits to complete the degree; 36 of these credits must be general education credits distributed across five subject area categories. A student must satisfy the required number of credits in each category. The remaining 24 elective credits should be selected in consultation with an Academic Advisor, who will assist with selecting the college credits aligning with the students educational goals.

To assure that graduates of the state university and state college systems share a common base of General Education requirements, the State of Florida has designated general education core course options in each of five subject area categories, Communication, Humanities, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. Each student must complete at least one identified core course in each area of study as part of the general education course requirements. NWFSC has embedded the core competencies in the A.A. and A.S. programs of study.

College-Level Communications and Computation Skills minimum grade and writing requirements:

  1. Attain a grade of ā€œCā€ or higher in ENC 1101, ENC 1102, and two Humanities courses designated as writing-focused courses, whether credits in such courses are earned at NWFSC or transferred for credit from other institutions.

  2. Attain a grade of ā€œCā€ or higher in each College-Level Communications and Computation Skills Mathematics course (any course from the Mathematics category that is used to meet A.A. general education requirements), whether credits in such courses are earned at NWFSC or transferred for credit from other institutions.
