The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment or provide additional training for persons previously or currently employed in the manufacturing, electronics, aerospace, or other related industries. Instruction in electrical/electronic principles, basic mechanic fundamentals, robotics and machine repair prepare the student to meet the demands and develop the skills required to maintain and troubleshoot high-tech manufacturing equipment. The coverage includes communication skills, technical competency, safe and efficient work practices and a combination of theory and laboratory activities to gain the necessary cognitive and manipulative skills to support engineering design, processes, production, testing, and product quality. Candidates interested in this program should be interested in working with their hands and enjoy the challenges of programming and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical equipment.
The 18 credit hour core has been aligned with the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council’s (MSSC) skills standards. The MSSC skill standards define the knowledge, skills, and performance needed for positions in manufacturing. After completing this core and the General Education requirements, the students will be eligible to take the exam for the MSSC Production Technician Certification.
Students who successfully complete selected core courses from this program of study may be eligible to receive the Engineering Technology Support Specialist (CCC) (State CIP Code 0615000007) certificate.
