The Aviation Powerplant Mechanics certificate program provides the training leading to eligibility to test for the written, oral, and practical exams required to obtain the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Powerplant Mechanics license. This program provides instruction consisting of a sequence of courses that involves the theoretical knowledge and practical laboratory training to develop the skills necessary to fulfill the FAA eligibility requirement for testing.
This training is highly intensive in developing the academic, technical, and professional skills, knowledge and attitudes required for success in the aviation maintenance field. It is a vocational credit program which is approximately 15 months in length, and is designed to meet the FAA standards which dictates a rigid class attendance and grading policy. Subjects will include inspect, service, repair, and overhaul of various powerplant systems and components to include reciprocating and turbine engines, electrical and electronics, precision measurement, propeller service, and fuel system diagnosis.
Successful completion of the program and acquiring the FAA powerplant license will provide career opportunities within general aviation, commercial airlines, repair stations, powerplant manufacturing, as well as maintenance support of military aircraft. Many students complete both the Airframe and Powerplant programs to increase their skillsets and employability. Students that already completed the Aviation maintenance Technology General sequence of courses are not required to complete them again as part of the powerplant program.
