Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE) Degree

Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, Birth through Four

The Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, Birth through Four is designed to prepare students to work in programs serving children ages 0-4 years. Graduates will be prepared to advance in the Early Childhood career field. The degree offers a career ladder for students earning the Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education at NWFSC, which includes the state-mandated prerequisite courses. Students earning an A.A. may also enter this program after completing the state-mandated prerequisite courses. Coursework is designed for the working adult, utilizing weekend, evening, and hybrid classes.

Bachelor of Science in Education

NWFSC is approved by the Florida Board of Education to offer three bachelor’s degrees leading to state certification in teacher education: the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, the Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades General Science Education and the Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades Mathematics Education. These degrees are designed to provide a career ladder for those who have already completed an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree or have 60 hours of acceptable lower division coursework and who wish to continue their education at the bachelor’s level. The Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education also includes endorsements in Reading and English as a Second Language.

Graduation Requirements for Bachelor of Science in Education Degrees

Students seeking a Bachelor of Science degree in must meet the following requirements:

  • Complete applicable admission requirements for the program. See the Admissions section of the catalog.
  • Complete at least 25% of the course work towards the program at NWFSC.
  • Maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00 for all college credit course work pursued at NWFSC.
  • Maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00 for all college credit course work pursued, whether at NWFSC or by transfer.
  • Earn a minimum grade (“C”) in all upper division course work.
  • Successfully complete all coursework within the major field of study with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.50.
  • Complete A.A. General Education requirements, including all Gordon Rule course requirements with minimum grades (“C”).
  • Successfully complete the Florida foreign language requirement.
  • Complete at least 50% of the upper division program course work in residence at NWFSC.
  • Pass the three Florida Teacher Certification Examinations: General Knowledge, Professional Education and appropriate Subject Area. (Not applicable for Early Childhood Education)
  • Complete a minimum of one hundred and twenty (120) college credits applicable toward the B.S. degree.
  • Satisfy all outstanding obligations to the college.
  • Apply to graduate by the published deadline.

Students seeking a Bachelor of Science degree in must meet the following requirements:

  • Complete applicable admission requirements for the program. See the Admissions section of the catalog.
  • Complete at least 25% of the course work towards the program at NWFSC.
  • Maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00 for all college credit course work pursued at NWFSC.
