B.S. in Early Childhood Education, Birth through Four Degree - Offered Online
The Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education, Birth through Four is designed to prepare students to work in programs serving children ages 0-4 years. Graduates will be prepared to advance in the Early Childhood career field. The degree offers a career ladder for students earning the Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education at NWFSC, which includes the state-mandated prerequisite courses. Students earning an A.A. may also enter this program after completing the state-mandated prerequisite courses. Coursework is designed for the working adult, and is offered online.
B.S. in Elementary Education Degree
NWFSC is approved by the Florida Board of Education to offer the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, which leads to state certification in teacher education. This degree is designed to provide a career ladder for those who have already completed an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree or have 60 hours of acceptable lower division coursework and who wish to continue their education at the bachelor’s level. The Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education also includes endorsements in Reading and English for speakers of other languages.
Graduation Requirements for B.S. in Early Childhood Education, Birth through Four Degree
Students seeking a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education, Birth through Four must meet the following requirements:
- Complete applicable admission requirements for the program. See the Admissions section of the catalog.
- Complete at least 30 credit hours of 1000, 2000, 3000, or 4000 level coursework at NWFSC.
- Maintain an institutional cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00 in all undergraduate credit hours.
- Complete all A.A. Degree General Education Requirements including Gordon Rule , Speaking-Across-the-Curriculum , and Civic Literacy Competency . Must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher.
- Completion of two sequential courses in high school foreign language, a minimum of 6 credit hours in one foreign language at the college level or an appropriate score on an approved CLEP examination.
- Complete at least thirty (30) credit hours of the Core coursework at NWFSC.
- Complete a minimum of one hundred and twenty (120) college credits applicable toward the B.S. degree.
- Satisfy all outstanding obligations to the college.

- Complete all A.A. Degree General Education Requirements with a minimum grade of (“C”) (including Gordon Rule , Core, Speaking-Across-the-Curriculum , and Civic Literacy Competency ).
- Complete all state-mandated prerequisites, required additional lower division course work and Program Content Courses with a grade of “C” or higher.
- Completion of two sequential courses in high school foreign language, a minimum of 6 credit hours in one foreign language at the college level or an appropriate score on an approved CLEP examination.
- Complete at least thirty (30) credit hours of the upper division Core coursework at NWFSC.
- Pass the three Florida Teacher Certification Examinations: General Knowledge, Professional Education and appropriate Subject Area.
- Complete a minimum of one hundred and twenty (120) college credits applicable toward the B.S. degree.
- Satisfy all outstanding obligations to the college.
