World Civilization: Early Humans through Global Expansion

This course is designed to acquaint students with the broad sweep of human history from the appearance of Homo sapiens until the beginning of the modern era, approximately 1500 A.D. As a world civilizations course, it will examine patterns, trends, and processes at the transnational and global level, rather than focusing chronologically on any particular nation or civilization. It explores fundamental questions in the human experience, relying on the Great Books of Western Civilization,  examining formative events in history, and seeks to teach the value of these important texts. In this course, students will explore dramatic structure, techniques, and various organizational elements. The course provides an introduction to theatre as a collaborative art form through the critical analysis of its historical context, production, theory, and connections to theatrical literature, including the western canon

Fall, Spring, Summer

A passing score on the standardized placement test measuring communication/verbal/reading achievement, successful completion of any required developmental English and Reading coursework with a grade of C or better, or exemption from placement testing.
