Humanities - A Contemporary Perspective

Course Description

This course is an integrated study of the artistic, cultural, philosophic, religious, social, and technological influences that shape modern western cultures in the modern era. The focus will begin with the 20th century and follow, chronologically, the issues of the modern era. Course readings will be derived from the western canon. In addition and to the extent possible, the course will provide instruction on the historical background and philosophical foundation of western civilization and the American democracy.

Prerequisite(s)

a passing score on the standardized placement test measuring communications/verbal/reading achievement, successful completion of any required developmental English and Reading coursework with a grade of C or better, or exemption from placement testing.
