Program Description

The Associate of Science in Health Services Management prepares students for entry-level administrative and supervisory roles within the rapidly growing healthcare industry. This program combines foundational business knowledge with specialized coursework in healthcare operations, compliance, communication, and organizational effectiveness, equipping graduates to support the delivery of efficient, ethical, and patient-centered care.

Students gain an understanding of the healthcare system through courses such as Introduction to Health Care (HSA1100), Health Information and Delivery Systems (HIM1000), and Community Health Issues (HSA2200/HSA2204), which explore healthcare structures, information flow, population health concerns, and the roles of various healthcare professionals. Medical Terminology (HSC1531) provides students with the language essential for communicating within clinical and administrative environments.

Legal and regulatory knowledge is strengthened through Health Care and Legal Compliance (HIM1012), where students study patient rights, confidentiality, compliance requirements, and healthcare laws. Students also develop an understanding of financial operations through Economic Dynamics and Reimbursement Strategies in Healthcare (HIM2922/HIM2279) and Economics (ECO2013), learning how reimbursement models, economic forces, and resource allocation impact healthcare organizations.

The program incorporates key business and management principles through Introduction to Business (GEB1011), Management (MAN2021), Organizational Behavior (MNA2100), Introduction to Human Resources (MAN2300), and Business Ethics (GEB2430).
