Program Description

The Associate of Science in Accounting Technology offers students a solid foundation in the principles, analytical methods, and technological tools essential for entry-level positions in accounting, finance, and business operations. The program integrates theoretical coursework with applied learning experiences to prepare students to analyze financial information, contribute to organizational decision-making, and perform critical accounting functions using contemporary, industry-standard technologies.

Core accounting coursework‚ including Accounting I (ACG2001), Accounting II (ACG2011), and Managerial Accounting (ACG2071)‚ develops students proficiency in preparing and interpreting financial statements, evaluating organizational performance, and applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to real-world scenarios. Technical competencies are further strengthened through Computer Applications for Accounting (ACG2450) and Payroll Accounting (ACO1806), which provide hands-on experience with accounting software, spreadsheet analysis, and payroll systems widely utilized across business environments.

To ensure broad business literacy, the curriculum incorporates foundational courses such as Economics I (ECO2013), Introduction to Business (GEB1011), and Personal Finance (FIN2100). These courses introduce students to economic theory, organizational structures, financial decision-making, and personal financial management, equipping graduates with a comprehensive understanding of the business landscape. In Federal Income Tax: Individual (TAX2000), students gain essential knowledge of tax law and develop the ability to prepare individual income tax returns accurately and in accordance with current regulatory standards.

The program also emphasizes the development of professional communication, interpersonal effectiveness, and workplace readiness. Courses such as Business Communications (OST2335), Organizational Behavior (MNA2100), and Customer Service (MNA1161) build students capacity to communicate clearly, work collaboratively, apply ethical judgment, and contribute positively to organizational culture. Transfer and Academic Pathways

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) programs in Management and Supervision, emphasis in Management, Hospitality & Tourism Management, Human Resource Management or Health Care Management

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) programs in Project Management

  • Note, for NWFSC Associate of Science degree completers the Business, Hospitality & Management department will consider applying up to 15 college credit hours of students lower division business courses as upper division technical electives in the B.A.S.
