State CIP Code 1615000001

The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment or provide additional training for persons previously or currently employed in the manufacturing, electronics, aerospace, or other related industries. Instruction in electrical/electronic principles, basic mechanic fundamentals, robotics and machine repair prepare the student to meet the demands and develop the skills required to maintain and troubleshoot high-tech manufacturing equipment. The coverage includes communication skills, technical competency, safe and efficient work practices and a combination of theory and laboratory activities to gain the necessary cognitive and manipulative skills to support engineering design, processes, production, testing, and product quality. Candidates interested in this program should be interested in working with their hands and enjoy the challenges of programming and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical equipment.

The core of this degree has been aligned with the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council’s (MSSC) skills standards. The MSSC skill standards define the knowledge, skills, and performance needed for positions in manufacturing. The course sequence is designed to prepare students for successful completion of the four exams that make up the MSSC Production Technician Certification. The exams are embedded within four of the courses with the outcome of the exam influencing the final grade in the selected courses.

Students who successfully complete selected core courses from this program of study may be eligible to receive the Engineering Technology Support Specialist (CCC)  (State CIP Code 0615000007) certificate.
