The Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, Birth through Four is designed to prepare students to work in programs serving children ages 0-4 years. Graduates will be prepared for advancement in the Early Childhood career field. The degree offers a career ladder for students earning the Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education at NWF State College, which includes one state-mandated prerequisite courses. AS students will complete an additional 18 hours of General Education classes during their upper division coursework, after admission to the Early Childhood Education program. Students earning an AA may also enter this program after completing the state-mandated prerequisite courses. These students will complete technical classes during their upper division coursework after admission to the Early Childhood Education program. Substitutions for any coursework in this program of study must be approved by the Teacher Education Program Director. Please note that some courses below may require lower division prerequisites not specified as program requirements.

General Education Course Requirements
NWFSC General Education Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of general education coursework, the student will:
- Demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing and speaking;
- Apply reflection, analysis, synthesis, logical reasoning and evaluation to formulate judgments, reach decisions and solve problems.
- Understand and apply mathematical and scientific principles and methods;
- Find, evaluate, organize and use information accurately and effectively;
- Participate actively as informed and responsible citizens in social, cultural, global and environmental matters.
Students entering with an A.S. or A.A.S. degree will have 18 General Education hours and will complete the remaining 18 within the B.S. in Early Childhood coursework.
Take one of the two following Social Sciences courses required to meet the Civic
Literacy Competency requirement:
NOTE: If you have not already done so, you must pass the Florida Civic Literacy Examination in
addition to completing one of the above courses to meet the Civic Literacy Competency requirement for
graduation.

Students entering with an AS or A.A.S. degree will complete 18 General Education hours within the B.S. in Early Childhood coursework.
Students entering with an AA degree will complete 18 hours of Early Childhood core coursework within the B.S. in Early Childhood, in accordance with a signed program of study designed by a program advisor.
