ASL1140 American Sign Language I -

4 Credit Hours

(Fall, Spring)

Introduces the student to the basic vocabulary and finger spelling of American Sign Language. Emphasis will be on learning to express this language in a simple form and have a basic receptive language competency. Course readings will be derived from the western canon. In addition and to the extent possible, the course will provide instruction on the historical background and philosophical foundation of western civilization and the American democracy.
