Course Description

This course overviews the basic theory and concepts of antigen-antibody reactions associated with blood cell transfusions and relates the concepts of immunology to blood banking procedures using the guidelines of the American Association of Blood Bank. Students will examine genetics, the structure of blood group antigens, the role of antibodies in transfusion, complement interactions, and compatibility testing. This course requires a grade of C or higher.

This course requires a lab fee.
