Testing Center Locations
Northwest Florida State College offers six testing locations:
- Niceville Campus
- Robert L. F. Sikes Education Center (Crestview)
- Fort Walton Beach Campus
- Hurlburt Field Site
- DeFuniak Springs Chautauqua Center
- South Walton Center.
Registerblast
If testing at the Niceville Campus, students should visit registerblast.com/nwfsc/exam to register for exams. This link is also found on the Testing Center webpage. RegisterBlast will allow test candidates to schedule and pay for exams. A $3.50 convenience fee is applied to all registrations requiring payment. For all other locations, appointments made via phone are necessary.
Proctor U
NWF State College requires that online courses include a proctored element. Students have three options for completing the proctored element: (1) face to face on the Niceville campus, (2) face to face at a remote proctoring site, or (3) online using ProctorU.
Distance Learning students are provided the opportunity to test through Proctor U. Students should log on to http://www.proctoru.com/howitworks.php to register and create an appointment. This service requires a web cam and microphone and the test candidate will be monitored through the computer screen. Tests should be scheduled at least 3 days in advance and there is an associated proctoring fee, see the Testing Center webpage for details.
Testing Services Offered and Associated Fees
PERT - For placement into English and Math courses, current and prospective NWF State College students will need to complete the Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT). This assessment is free for the first attempt. Additional attempts will incur a $10.00 fee. Students must wait 7 days between each testing attempt. There is a $30.00 test fee for all non-NWF State College test candidates. The PERT test is offered at the six locations listed above.
Proctored Exams - Make-up exams for current NWF State College students are offered free of charge. Tests are offered at the six locations listed above. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the test is received at the test location.
Proctored Exams for Non-NWF State College Students - Students currently enrolled in an institution other than NWF State College will be charged a $30.00 testing fee. Tests are offered at the six locations listed above. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the testing location has received the exam from the home institution.
CLEP (College Level Examination Program) - A student may sit for a CLEP exam to prove competency in a subject area, therefore earning credit without registering for a course. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the receiving institution accepts the CLEP credit. CLEP Exams must be registered for and paid at clep.collegeboard.org. There is an $80.00 exam fee plus a $20.00 Administration Fee to be paid to the NWF State College Testing Center. This is a free exam for military and specific military affiliations. Please see the CLEP website for additional information. Test is offered at Niceville and Hurlburt Field and can only be taken once every six months.
DSST, formerly DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support) - A student may sit for the DSST to prove competency in a subject area, therefore earning credit without registering for a course. The DSST must be registered for and paid at getcollegecredit.com. There is an $80.00 exam fee plus a $20.00 Administration Fee to be paid to the testing center. This is a free exam for military and specific military affiliations. Please see DSST website for additional information. Test is offered at Niceville and Hurlburt Field and can only be taken once every six months.
FBAT (Florida Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test) - This assessment is used to measure an applicant’s likelihood of being successful in a Law Enforcement program. Aptitudes for written expression, oral comprehension, selective attention, visualization, inductive, and deductive reasoning are determined. Candidates may complete this assessment up to three times for any program in a 12-month period. The testing fee is $35.00. Test is offered at Niceville only.
HESI (Health and Environmental Sciences Institute) - The HESI is a computerized exam that includes up to seven sections. Admission into the NWF State College Associates of Science in Radiography and the Associate of Science in Nursing programs requires the completion of the Math, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary and General Knowledge, Grammar, and Anatomy sections. Candidates are allowed two attempts during any one application cycle, with 30 days between attempts. Candidates for another institution will be required to verify the required sections of the HESI with that institution. The testing fee is $40.00. Test is offered at Niceville only.
TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) - Students seeking admission into the Dental, Fire, and Welding programs at NWF State College are required to complete TABE and will be charged a $30.00 for for this assessment. TABE measures a combination of skills in Reading, Language, Language Mechanics, Spelling, Vocabulary, Writing, Applied Math, and Math Computation. Combinations will vary based on program admission requirements. Those completing TABE as an exit assessment will not be charged an additional fee. All other programs and test candidates will be charged $30.00 per attempt. Candidates may retake TABE immediately after first attempt. However, after two attempts, candidates must wait 30 days prior to retesting. Test is offered at Niceville only.
Professional Testing/Certification and GED Services
The Niceville Campus houses a certified Prometric and Pearson Vue testing center in which to complete professional certifications and the GED.
Prometric (Information Technology Certifications) - Designed for software and technology professionals, exams offered at NWF State College include: Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), UNIX, LINUX, A+, Network +, CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Certified Novell Administrator (CNA) and Certified Novell Engineer (CNE). Pearson VUE - Delivers certification and licensure tests through NWF State College’s test center in the areas of Academic/Admissions, Construction Trades, UST & Inspectors, Driving Test, Employment/HR/Management Safety, Financial Services, GED 2014 Exam, Health/Medicine/Nursing/Pharmacy, Information Technology, Insurance, Legal Services, Real Estate/Appraisers/Mortgage and Loan, and State Regulated Certifications and Licensures. Certiport - NWF State College offers the official Microsoft Office Specialist certification for desktop productivity in the following areas: Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Access, and Project. The IC3 training and certification program covers a broad range of computing knowledge and skills that proves competency in: Computing Fundamentals, Key Applications, and Living Online.
